Randall Cattle are one of the rarest heritage cattle breeds in the United States—and they come from right here in Vermont. Originally bred in Sunderland, the pure Randall Lineback is known for its distinctive coloring, gentle temperament, and adaptability to rugged pastures. As proud Vermonters and thoughtful stewards of the land, we are honored to be part of their ongoing story.

Randall Cattle: A Vermont Treasure

Established in Vermont, growing at Sterling Hollow.

Randall Cattle are a rare and historically significant heritage breed, first developed in Vermont and now finding a renewed home at Sterling Hollow Farm. In August of 2025, we welcomed our first Randall Cattle to the farm, beginning a long-term commitment to preserving this DNA-pure, non-genetically modified breed. Why it Matters

Heritage breeds connect us to land, history, and responsibility.

Randall Cattle are more than just livestock—they’re part of Vermont’s agricultural identity. Supporting heritage breeds like this one helps ensure future generations benefit from their genetic resilience, regional adaptability, and cultural significance. As a non-genetically modified, DNA-pure breed, Randalls offer traits that are increasingly rare in modern agriculture—natural disease resistance, hardiness, and a deep-rooted connection to place. Preserving their purity not only safeguards their future, but also supports the long-term health, diversity, and sustainability of livestock and farming as a whole.
